Songwriter Jesse James DeConto traveled to Paris just weeks after his 24-year-old daughter lost her new job in federal forest conservation to Elon Musk's DOGE cuts. Jesse was wrestling with the privilege of an international vacation for his wife's sabbatical from work, while the Trump administration was abandoning Earth care and the fight against climate-change with policies like dropping out of the Paris Climate Agreement and doubling-down on fossil fuels for energy and transportation.

In a season of helplessness and despair, Jesse re-encountered Pablo Picasso's famous quote during World War II, depicted in the 2023 film LEE: "The only sane response to tyranny is to paint ... and drink ... and write ... and dance." Coupled with the serendipity of touring Picasso's old haunts in Montmartre, the words rekindled Jesse's sense of purpose as an artist in a fascist America. Italian illustrator Bernardo Tirelli imagined this Normandy beach scene for his video animation of Jesse's song inspired by these moments, "The Fight for Freedom Was in VOGUE."
